Kristen Shoot

Kristen Shoot

A few years ago I was working as a network admin for a law firm called Adorno & Yoss. I have good memories from back then. One of the attorneys working there was Kristen. I always wanted to ask her for a shoot, but being an employee there I felt that asking one of the attorneys to pose for me may come off as...rude? So I never bothered.

Death of a Mermaid

Death of a Mermaid

I was looking through some of my unpublished work the other day when I come across this shot. It was a bikini/swim wear sunrise photo shoot. The problem was that the clouds completely blocked off the sunrise and as such I was forced to try other things, other camera angles to try to salvage the morning. In this particular shot, I asked the model to lie down on the sand for some shots, when she recommended perhaps doing a topless concept, but being covered with sea weed. Winston, my assistant, was with me so I take a look at him. I felt a bit shy about the notion since there were people at the beach and I'm not used to shooting implied in public places. I said go for it.

Amy Training

Amy is a co-worker with a background in graphic design. Often times, when I used to work in her office, she would come along and show me and another IT Co-Worker some of her work. Never failing to impress us, she one day showed me her photographic work using a point-n-shoot camera. Since then I have encouraged her to purchase a DSLR for her photography. She finds out later on that I shoot photographs for fun.

Katie Shoot

I had the honor of photographing a lead clothing designer in South Florida recently, Katie from www.ShopTruffle.com. The original intent of this shoot was to shoot simple shots with a white background to add to a web catalog. Nothing fancy was required. I did go ahead and did the simple white background thing, but while editing I noticed how colorful her clothing line was, so it sparked an idea. Why not make the background a bit more interesting and augment the colors she is wearing in the shots? Paint! I have also been experimenting with a different editing technique on the skin. Keep in mind, she made the clothing herself. Enjoy.

Test Shoot with Sonju

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Sonju of Sonju Photography. I have been following her work for almost two years now. Every now and then we would talk about photography but never met...until now. She is an AMAZING person and an AMAZING photographer. Check out her work by going to
http://www.facebook.com/sonjuphotography

Elena wanted some photography lessons so I sent an email to Sonju asking if she wanted to meet and just shoot for fun. She loved the idea and brought Jessica with her. Jessica turned out to be a very cool and VERY BRAVE model. She would walk into swampy waters, submerge in lakes, and climb trees. I like it when a model is daring and is not afraid to do what it takes for the shot.

After playing with my camera equipment, Sonju busted out her amazing 5DMKII (same one I have, which is why I call it amazing) and her kick-ass camera strap. I busted out my own 5DMKII and my 70-200mm 2.8 L IS lens. Sonju freaked out when she saw it! She was like, "OMG I've never even touched one of these!!". She touched it and was in awe.

Want to use it with your camera? Sonju replied with a "OF COURSE!!!"

We began looking for a spot for Jessica. Jessica put on Elena's rubber boots and began walking into a lake. Sonju began taking photos of her while I held a diffuser screen up. After a bit we tried another location. I saw a stump and thought it was an interesting location to play with.

Pictures

We began to play with light. Elena helped us out by holding a beauty dish.

This is a picture Sonju took of me shooting Jessica. Sonju mentions that Elena looks like she is about to hit Jessica with the beauty dish lol.

One of the shots taken while at "The Stump". I love Jessica's facial expression here. Her hair looks amazing too. It seems to be full of life.

I was slightly disappointed in this shot because I failed to notice her hand placement. I don't like it when a model does not show her hands in the shot. Oh well...I'll keep an an eye out for it next time.

Another variation of "The Stump" shot. Hands show just fine. Good!

My fav "Stump" shot! Here is Sonju showing Jessica a pose when I yell out, "I'm taking a picture!!!" Sonju's face turned red and quickly looked away! This is the result. I LOVE this photo. Here we have Sonju, one of my fav photographers in South Florida, looking all epic in front of a model wearing denim shorts and rubber boots. To me, this photo can mean so many different things. I love it.

After we were done playing with the stump, we noticed a weird looking object in the water. I asked Jessica if she would be OK with getting wet. This brave model just looked at me and said, "For the shot? Not at all!" Wow.

I began taking shots.

Here is a shot Sonju took of me while photographing Jessica. Unfortunately I was not satisfied with the shots I took here. Not because of the model or anything, I wanted different lighting.

Sonju did take AWESOME shots though with that killer eye of hers. Make sure to visit her site to see! http://www.facebook.com/sonjuphotography

We wrapped things up at around 4:00pm. I had a shoot scheduled with Karina at this same location. Unfortunately Sonju and Jessica would not stay to hang out with us while I shot Karina, but I had an amazing time. Meeting Sonju was a great experience. She is an awesome photographer and has my full respect as an artist, and as a person.

Next week I will blog about Karina's photo shoot.
Reminder: I have a photography contest going on. "Like" my facebook fan page to be entered automatically for a free photo shoot.
