Kristen Shoot

Kristen Shoot

A few years ago I was working as a network admin for a law firm called Adorno & Yoss. I have good memories from back then. One of the attorneys working there was Kristen. I always wanted to ask her for a shoot, but being an employee there I felt that asking one of the attorneys to pose for me may come off as...rude? So I never bothered.

Death of a Mermaid

Death of a Mermaid

I was looking through some of my unpublished work the other day when I come across this shot. It was a bikini/swim wear sunrise photo shoot. The problem was that the clouds completely blocked off the sunrise and as such I was forced to try other things, other camera angles to try to salvage the morning. In this particular shot, I asked the model to lie down on the sand for some shots, when she recommended perhaps doing a topless concept, but being covered with sea weed. Winston, my assistant, was with me so I take a look at him. I felt a bit shy about the notion since there were people at the beach and I'm not used to shooting implied in public places. I said go for it.

Amy Training

Amy is a co-worker with a background in graphic design. Often times, when I used to work in her office, she would come along and show me and another IT Co-Worker some of her work. Never failing to impress us, she one day showed me her photographic work using a point-n-shoot camera. Since then I have encouraged her to purchase a DSLR for her photography. She finds out later on that I shoot photographs for fun.

Katie Shoot

Katie Shoot

I had the honor of photographing a lead clothing designer in South Florida recently, Katie from www.ShopTruffle.com. The original intent of this shoot was to shoot simple shots with a white background to add to a web catalog. Nothing fancy was required. I did go ahead and did the simple white background thing, but while editing I noticed how colorful her clothing line was, so it sparked an idea. Why not make the background a bit more interesting and augment the colors she is wearing in the shots? Paint! I have also been experimenting with a different editing technique on the skin. Keep in mind, she made the clothing herself. Enjoy.

Models not being profound enough

I'm in one of those ranty moods..... Not In a good mood, rather upset, disappointed and well...feeling kinda bleh. Don't take whatever I say personal. It's me venting.

I was browsing through my facebook today and I figured I'd see briefly what others are up to. I have a lot of "models" on my facebook listed as friends (not my Fan page, but rather my personal Facebook). I was observing some of the posts they were making, some of their photographs, and their general demeanor while on this social networking site.

What did I see? Just how damn superficial and annoying most of these girls are. I see these girls who really can't pose for shit, look hideous, and swear they deserve to be on the cover of Vogue. It seems that to these women, every guy on the planet wants to marry them and make them their wife. Really? No, men are not stalking your whorish photographs on facebook. No, not all men give a shit about your fake breasts. No, your face looks like road kill after your botox procedure. No, you are not a good model because you look like a freaking horse. I as a photographer would rather shoot a pile of manure and call it art than to shoot a "pretty" girl who is too into herself. The worst kind are the girls who are so into themselves and....THEY ARE NOT EVEN GOOD LOOKING!

These type of women tend to marry men who are only into their looks. When these women are older and loose their "beauty", they are SHOCKED that their husband left them for a "hot" 20 year old.

Here is some advice from a hobbyist photographer.
  • Bending over showing your ass to the camera DOES NOT MAKE YOU A PROFESSIONAL MODEL.
  • Big breasts DOES NOT MAKE YOU HOT. Want them to make yourself feel better? Great! But getting them to show off how amazing they look? Really???
  • Using the same pose on every photo in your "modeling portfolio" does not mean it's a "signature pose". It means you can't pose for shit.
  • Opening an MM account DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE A MODEL.
It's amusing to see their occupational status as "Professional Model". I consider myself decent at photography but never would I call myself a "Professional Photographer".

"WTF are you talking about Ricardo, you look like shit too". Yeah, but I don't go about pretending that every girl out there wants to be with me or that I am the most beautiful person ever born.

My complete respects go to those women who are trying to be in the modeling scene without having a disgusting superficial view. A big thanks to those models who have worked with me. Superficiality is one thing I look for when choosing models and you guys are not one of them. Cheers!

So whats a girl with real substance?

How about intelligence? How about talent? How about personality that is not centered around looks?

Take a look at this for example.

Dim lights

See? That's a woman that I can go to myself and say, "Man, she's awesome!".

The most attractive women are those beauties who do not go out about trying to be attention whores. Beauty is only temporary.

Oh yes, one last thing. If you noticed that I removed you from my facebook, it's because you are one of those I spoke about.

Time to relax and listen to this little lick written by one of those on my "I would love to have a photo shoot with one day" list. Juliette Valduriez.
