Kristen Shoot

Kristen Shoot

A few years ago I was working as a network admin for a law firm called Adorno & Yoss. I have good memories from back then. One of the attorneys working there was Kristen. I always wanted to ask her for a shoot, but being an employee there I felt that asking one of the attorneys to pose for me may come off as...rude? So I never bothered.

Death of a Mermaid

Death of a Mermaid

I was looking through some of my unpublished work the other day when I come across this shot. It was a bikini/swim wear sunrise photo shoot. The problem was that the clouds completely blocked off the sunrise and as such I was forced to try other things, other camera angles to try to salvage the morning. In this particular shot, I asked the model to lie down on the sand for some shots, when she recommended perhaps doing a topless concept, but being covered with sea weed. Winston, my assistant, was with me so I take a look at him. I felt a bit shy about the notion since there were people at the beach and I'm not used to shooting implied in public places. I said go for it.

Amy Training

Amy is a co-worker with a background in graphic design. Often times, when I used to work in her office, she would come along and show me and another IT Co-Worker some of her work. Never failing to impress us, she one day showed me her photographic work using a point-n-shoot camera. Since then I have encouraged her to purchase a DSLR for her photography. She finds out later on that I shoot photographs for fun.

Katie Shoot

Katie Shoot

I had the honor of photographing a lead clothing designer in South Florida recently, Katie from www.ShopTruffle.com. The original intent of this shoot was to shoot simple shots with a white background to add to a web catalog. Nothing fancy was required. I did go ahead and did the simple white background thing, but while editing I noticed how colorful her clothing line was, so it sparked an idea. Why not make the background a bit more interesting and augment the colors she is wearing in the shots? Paint! I have also been experimenting with a different editing technique on the skin. Keep in mind, she made the clothing herself. Enjoy.

Before and After Editing

So I normally do not do this...but for some reason I liked the editing so much in this photo that I just had to share the before photo. I edited a photo of Jenna from my previous shoot and the changes were so significant that I could not help but share the editing process with you guys. I msged Jenna on Facebook and I asked her if I can post a before and after photograph of her on my blog. Now, normally I do not have to ask (they are my photos), but because I am a nice guy I always like to ask the model first. I do this for a hobby, not for a living, so I could careless if I don't publish a photo. I'm in this for the love of creating artwork, not for the money. Still, I ask, because good art deserves to be shared.

Below is my conversation with Jenna. Her response surprised me. I liked it. I did not expect it. It was refreshing.

"Girls won't be comparing themselves to edited models and therefore feeling ugly about their skin or whatever". Wow. Impressive point of view that I rarely see in this industry. Way to go Jenna!!

Here is the original, unedited photo of Jenna's head shot. I asked her to remove as much makeup as possible. I wanted something natural. I liked this shot but I was not happy after three different edits. Several days later I put on some music (Lina Del Ray), and I began playing in Photoshop.

Below is the result. Notice the big difference between the original photo and the end result.

I just think it's so neat! The things artists can do in Photoshop is incredible!  Thank you Jenna for letting me share this. You rock!

I don't listen to music.

That's what I used to tell people when I was asked who were my favorite music artists. I was around 14 years old and living in Hialeah. My brothers listened to other types of music, mainly hip-hop and rap. Back then, hip-hop or rap were the only type of music I was exposed to. I never liked hip hop and rap and I always wondered what my brothers saw in music. I paid no mind. They enjoyed what they liked and I supposed I just didn't like music in general. Rap and hip-hop...whats what everyone listened to. I never found what was the big deal about someone always singing about how awesome of a life they have, how many girls they can get, or how much drugs they can do. I also just didn't like the beat or the music in itself.

I remember one day I was grouped with this really weird guy in class with long black hair. He had a hunched back and always wore black. I found him interesting.  He stood out, he was unique, he kept to himself. He spoke intelligently yet spoke as if he didn't care of the words he spoke about.I felt there that we had things in common, except that I didn't wear all black. Anyways, when we were grouped he asked the question in a slightly different way. Instead of asking who were my favorite artists, he asked me "What type of music do you listen to?". I told him "I don't listen to music". I remember him laughing at my response, while I just stared back at him in confusion. "Everyone listens to some type of music my friend!" he told me. I replied back telling him that no, I don't like music. I told him music was a waste of time and energy. Why waste time and energy on something as pointless as music?

Do you like rock?
Rock?
Yes. Rock.
Umm, no?
I'll bring you a CD to listen to tomorrow.

The following day he gave me a CD. I remember looking at it and seeing some skull and skeletons with swords.

"Hmm"
?
Interesting cover.
I know. Listen to it, and bring it back to me. It's Slayer.
Slayer?
Just listen to it.

So at this point I felt weird bringing this back to my house. What would my brothers think? What would my dad thing if he saw this? I laughed to myself and wondered if they would think I'm some type of Satan worshiper or something. The cover looked creepy. I decided to listen to the CD when I has the privacy I wanted. It came, I placed the disc inside my Sony Walkman CD player, put on the headphones, laid on my bed, pressed play, and closed my eyes.

My jaw dropped. What I was listening to was nothing short of beautiful. That's when I fell in love with the guitar. I had absolutely no idea what the singer was singing, and quite frankly I did not care. He sounded angry, he was upset, the music was full of adrenaline. What an incredible release of emotions! I loved it!
Dim lights

When I brought the CD back to him, I couldn't help but tell him how incredible the music was! To my surprise, he brought me another pair of music discs that would further invigorate my newly found music desire.

The Smashing Pumpkins :) This artist was a bit more...relaxed compared to Slayer. There was not so much screaming going on and I understood what the singer was singing. The songs in this album was also very diverse! My favorite of the album being Bullet with Butterfly Wings.
Dim lights

And thus began my taste for music. Today, I still dislike rap, hop-hp, r&b, and all that stuff. Not to say it's not good music, it's just that I don't like it. To me music is changes in notes. I see too much repetition (the "beat" I guess you can say) in this type of music. On top of that, I dislike the fact that most of songs in this genre involve devaluing women as sex objects, and having an egocentric view on life. Yes, I don't care about their ho's and their money. Couldn't give a damn.

To this day, my favorite music video ever made has been by The Smashing Pumpkins. Ava Adore.
Dim lights

I remember sitting in my computer class in high school...playing this video on loop. I was bewildered by the creativity involved in this video. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Oh yeah, the bass guitarist: I had the biggest crush on her ^_^

Farewell to Vagabond II

A few weeks ago I was doing a shoot with a model, when all of a sudden my strobes stopped working. "I ran out of juice" I thought to myself. No worries. When I got home I tried charging it again...failed :( I opened the instruction manual and it recommended to check the two fuses on it. Sure enough, they were blown. I go to an auto parts store and purchase new fuses. "Great!" I go to myself, back in business! When I placed the two new fuses, smoke starting coming out of the unit. It was dead!!

I made this small video in honor of my good friend, V. Bond II. The video shows some of the good times we had together! :(

NYC Video Clip & Photo Gallery

So Elena and I visited NYC on August 18th. It was to be our last little getaway before Blu is born.  We only spent 4 days there but we definitely had a great time! This clip is just to show what we generally did.

I'll go over some of the memorable things that happens in NYC, and share a small gallery below that.

This is my first subway experience. We arrived to NY during rush hour. I felt as if I was being groped and kicked.  Yeah... interesting first experience lol.

I saw my first Broadway show. We originally wanted to see Wicked, but Chicago fit better into our schedule. Chicago on Broadway was AWESOME! My first and only Broadway show but I believe I am now hooked! I want to see more! Pop.Six.Squish.Unh-uh.Cicero.Lipschitz.!

I did a photo shoot in Central Park. Originally I wanted to take my lighting equipment, but it was just too much to carry. Elena and I went to the local Adorama store and rented a light reflector. That will have to do :).

The shots came out interesting! I will have them ready sometime next week.

Elena and I played around with the camera while we waited for the makeup artist to finish with our model, Melanie.

I got to meet an old friend, Jeff. I met him many many years ago via World of Warcraft. We played the game for a few years, eventually developing a friendship. I am glad I finally got to meet him. Elena and I took him to an awesome Indian restaurant near The Royalton Hotel. We then walked around the city for a while. Awesome guy.

RS and Butt Shots

So I was shooting at Central Park yesterday with model Melanie. I was scouting some locations to shoot at and Elena and I were joking about the whole "bending over in front of the camera" shots when all of a sudden  she told me to pose bending over.

Sure I said. I'll pose as whorish I as possibly can. I'm sure some people would appreciate a fine piece of photographer ass ;)
