Ricardo Sevilla

I was born in Corinto, Nicaragua. My family was forced to move to Chinandega because of spillover violence from an ongoing civil unrest. My father immigrated to the United States to obtain a job and get the funds to send my mother and I over as well. My grandfather and uncles agreed that it was a good idea to send the youngest daughter/sister and her child to the United States to escape the violence and poverty that was rapidly spreading. With united resources they helped facilitate the journey. Obviously being poor we did not have the resources to travel to the United States legally, let alone afford plane tickets. We would have to journey north through Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. During this trip I almost died. I will not go into the details, but it just makes me wonder just how strong a mother's will to protect her young can be. Thank you mother. I love you.
This is me in Nicaragua, before leaving to the United States. I come from a poor family in Nicaraguan farm lands.
This photo was taken the day I arrived in the United States. I am overjoyed by a toy car, sitting alongside my mother.
A year or so later, my little sister is born. Soon after my father leaves my mother and she is to fend for herself. This is when my life begins. Raised by a single immigrant mother living in a strange country, working for $3.15 an hour at a shoe and lamp factory. Lets just say that I know what it really feels like to go hungry. Cup o Noodles was a significant portion of my diet and to this day I gag when I see one of those hellish things. On my birthday I would be treated to a Big Mac from Mc Donalds.
It took many years to forgive my father, but I am glad I eventually did. "Your father will always be your father, despite whatever past mistakes he may have done" my mother would tell me.

I went though this "I just don't care" phase in high school. I did not care about my grades, I did not care about upsetting my teachers or teammates, I did not care about my health...I did not care about many things. I cared only about escaping this wretchedly boring world. I escaped through video games, through books, through art, through my guitar, through my imagination, and through love.
I am pretty easy going though I do not consider myself to be the most social person you will meet. I enjoy keeping to myself and loosing myself in thought, wondering about things that may not interest others. I best get along with other artists or musicians, who see the world in a unique way. It's fascinating to see their version of the world through their work.
I enjoy expressing myself through my work, giving glimpses at the visions, thoughts or pain that's inside of me. Through subjective art I tell you who I am.
Today?
I am married with Elena and we are expecting a baby girl, named Blu. Below are pictures of my wife and soon to be born baby daughter.

I can take a look at your work if you want me to and give you my honest opinion. I wouldn't be harsh to you , or anyone though, as I don't consider myself a professional or anything. Where can I see your work? Can I blog about my review of your work?
